Our new faces for the Academy Of Design

It’s great to see four of our new faces, Joachim, Sophie M., Wennie and Emmett (who we’ll be launching soon), on the website and Facebook page for the Academy of Design.

The Academy of Design (AOD) is a specialized institute focusing on fashion courses. It has an exciting range of courses and you can find out all about them at www.aod.education. And be sure to like the AOD Facebook page as well!

The images were shot by the wonderful Matryoshka, with Krishna K. @ K² Beauty & Makeup on makeup. You can see the images on the site, but here they are below as well:

Tips for models preparing for beauty shoots

It’s a while since we’ve done an advice post, so here’s one on preparing for a beauty shoot. It comes about following Monique’s beauty shoot with Kin Lo last week and just before her cover shoot tomorrow (more on that soon).

Beauty work places some additional demands on models, makeup artists and photographers. The hair and makeup work is naturally more intricate and the relationship between the model and the camera is even more important than for shoots of other kinds. As a model, it’s important to be able to emote. Cold, dead eyes look even colder and deader under the sharp focus of a beauty image – and no amount of Photoshop skills can add emotions to a model’s face. If you’ve never done a beauty shoot before, it’s worth practicing in front of the mirror at home.

Here are a few more tips:

1. Always be on time: – and, in fact, be early. There’s so much more to do before you get in front of the camera – and hair and makeup for a beauty shoot takes so much longer!

2. Wear clear nail polish – unless otherwise required for the shoot. Even if she has nice manicure, the color and style will not necessarily match the style of your shoot, and if the makeup artist doesn’t have nail polish remover in her/his kit there will be some extra post-processing time and costs involved.

3. Make sure your hair is clean - and don’t put product in it.

4. Look after your lips – apply lip softener to prevent them from chapping, especially before a close-up beauty photo shoot.

5. Remove body hair – when you’re shooting close-up beauty images, any hair on arms and legs will be visible in studio or outdoors in most situations, no matter where the light sources are placed. It’s not the easiest task to remove body hair in Photoshop and it may be pretty time-consuming. The applies to any upper lip hair, which should be taken care of a couple of days in advance to avoid skin irritation.

6. Groom your eyebrows – this should be done within a few days before the shoot, especially if it’s close-up beauty.

7. Bring nude underwear and a strapless bra - this makes it so much easier for stylists to put you in any outfits during the shoot.

8. Never dye your hair, use a tanning bed, or spray tan the day before a photo shoot. Things can go awfully wrong!

Live from our 1920s/Chicago shoot

Something a bit different today – we have 5 models, 5 makeup artists, 5 hair stylists, a cast of assistants and Michael Bellis behind the camera at a 1920s style shoot. I’ll be updating you throughout the day as we go from PASM studio to the location.

10.20 am - All models are in hair and makeup, getting ready for the first headshots beginning in about 10 minutes from now.

image

11.00 am – Sydney’s just done her headshots – Elektra’s up now, Sophie and Charlene are almost ready, and Alessandro is getting oiled up.

image

11.30 am - just about through the headshots. Charlene’s up now, with just Alessandro to go. Sydney and Elektra are already in their 1920s outfits and ready for the next stage of the shoot.

image

12 noon - Finally, one or two lighting and makeup adjustments later, it’s Alessandro’s turn.

image

1.30 pm – A slight wardrobe malfunction but one size 42 white wing-collared shirt later and Alessandro can finally put his shirt on. In the meantime, Elektra looks stunning.

image

2.15 pm - Well into the 1920s now, with Sydney absolutely nailing it and Elektra looking sultry. Now it’s Sophie M’s turn up…

image

2.45 pm – The last shots at the studio – now on to the location.

image

3.50 pm - We’ve arrived at our location – the Museum of Medical Sciences and we’re setting up (and touching up hair and makeup) for the final shoot of the day.

image

4.30 pm - And we’ve begun…

image

image

imageimage

4.45 pm - The couples shots, with Alessandro learning that the job of a male model is often to be a handsome lamp post…

image

image

5.00 pm – …and the final group shots

image

5.30 pm - And we’re done and heading home. Thanks to everyone today for some great work. And special thanks to Michael Bellis for all the hard work involved in setting this up.

More Wennie

We’ve been doing a lot of shoots recently for graduating designers. We love doing these – not only because it helps out Hong Kong’s designers of the future, and not just because we get to work with some great photographers, but also because they often produce shots that really add something to a model’s portfolio.

So, here are some shots of Wennie, working again with the lovely Jazika, from a recent shoot:

Wennie has been getting a great response from our clients, so if you’d like to work with her too, please get in touch with us at info@360degreemodels.com.

Introducing Natalie

It seems like there’s a Thai connection for our introductory posts this week. Today, it’s our great pleasure to introduce you to Natalie, a brilliant model who began her career in Thailand and who has now relocated to Hong Kong.

Natalie certainly has an impressive resume, covering beauty, fashion, high fashion and a range of print and TVC work. Recently she has appeared in a print ad promoting Thai tourism. We’re so glad she has agreed to work with us.

Here’s a small sample of her work:

The beauty of Monique

Yesterday, Monique had a beauty shoot with the amazing Kin Lo. Monique has a great look for beauty work – something that requires even more of a model than fashion or editorial work.

Taking direction is an important element in all modeling, but it’s even more important for beauty work – and Monique demonstrated yet again how well she takes direction. Patience is also a virtue with hair and makeup naturally taking far longer than on shoots of other kinds – after all, that’s what a beauty shoot is all about!

Here are a few behind the scenes snaps from Monique’s shoot. We’re looking forward to showing you the final results in a few weeks from now.

Introducing Teerapat

We hope everyone had a great Easter break – we certainly did (although we did book Lotte into a last-minute job yesterday and do a little work on a couple of upcoming projects for Monique, Elektra, Sydney, Charlene, Sophie M. and JP). Now, however, it’s back to work – and we’re delighted to announce that Teerapat has agreed to work with us.

In his native Thailand, Teerapat has built up an impressive body of fashion and commercial work. While he will continue to be based in Thailand, we will be representing him here in Hong Kong. For our readers in Thailand, you may know him as Dome (and for our readers outside Thailand, nicknames are commonly used instead of given names).

Here is a selection of images from his portfolio:

Models by design (behind the scenes)

Over the past week, Bronwyn, Emilie, Sydney and Alba have been working with some of Hong Kong’s future fashion designers. At 360 Degree Models, we’re big supporters of both local fashion design and local fashion design students, so the agency and our models have been working on this project for very special student rates.

We’ll show you the completed images soon but, in the meantime, here’s a look behind the scenes at Alba, Emilie and Sydney’s shoots (Bronwyn was on location somewhere in Kowloon and we weren’t able to take any snaps).

Introducing Bronwyn

We’re really happy to announce that Bronwyn has agreed to work with us. We’ve already submitted her for a number of jobs (and you’ll see the results of a shoot she did over the weekend for one of our clients very soon).

From Australia, Bronwyn is a professional dancer as well as a model, and her grace and elegance shows through in the images you can see below.
